Funeral Mass for Rosalind Zseleczky

Rosalind Jeanne Zseleczky (née Waters) died on December 4, 2023 after suffering a stroke shortly before Thanksgiving. Jeanne was the middle child of three siblings, born to the late Joseph and Rosalind Waters in Washington, D.C. in 1928. She was raised in Prince George’s County, MD and graduated from Dunbarton College of the Holy Cross with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1949.

As a young woman, Jeanne lived with her beloved siblings “Bootsy” and “Buzz” in Washington, working as a teacher and government employee. She also trained as an artist, producing treasured paintings that are still in her family’s possession today. In 1956, Jeanne married the love of her life Emil “Juck” Zseleczky. Together they had four children. Juck’s naval career took their family to three foreign postings in Japan, Italy, and England, as well as domestic stints in Norfolk, VA, Newport, RI, and Washington, D.C.

Following her husband’s retirement from the Navy in 1975, Jeanne and her family settled in Bedford, PA before returning to Prince George’s County where she lived for many years in Temple Hills, MD. She enjoyed tending to her garden, caring for her cherished pet dogs (Fanny and Siggy among others), and taking daily walks to the “rec field” near her home. Her grandchildren have many happy memories of sharing in her routines.

Jeanne also enjoyed traveling with her husband, including a memorable trip to Ireland in 1989 and driving trips all across the United States. She also maintained written correspondence with distant relatives, staying connected with the various branches of her family. Jeanne was a prolific photographer and record keeper, documenting all family occasions where she was present. She was also a regular attendee at garden tours of historic homes in Southern Maryland. Other lifelong interests included British culture, classical music, and genealogy.

Jeanne’s connection to Calvert County dates back to the 1940s when her father purchased a vacation cottage at Scientists’ Cliffs. He later purchased and restored a historic home, Laveille Place, which Jeanne meticulously researched and wrote about for local publications. She often spoke about the thrill of poring over primary source records and seeing her own name in print.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her children, John, Jacob, and Emilia; her husband, Emil Jacob Zseleczky; and her siblings, Mary Patricia Cammack and Joseph Borrows Waters III. She is survived by her son, Victor Joseph Zseleczky; her grandchildren, Megan Cory Perry, Melody Marie Gimlin, William Harris Marley III, and Madalyn Elizabeth Marley; her great-grandchildren, Scarlette Emilyn Perry and Vincent William James Gimlin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and other relatives.

The family will hold a viewing on December 16, 2023 at 10:00 am at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, located at 105 Vianney Lane, Prince Frederick, MD. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am with Father Joseph Pierce officiating. Interment will follow at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
