Father Peter Alliata, a Washington, DC native, was the son of Piter Alliata and Katherine Alliata. Father Alliata had one sister and is survived by one brother. He was baptized at Holy Rosary, the Italian parish in Washington, and later attended St. Joseph’s Home and School and St. Martin’s School in Washington. He then attended St. Charles College in Catonsville, MD and St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore. He was ordained as a priest of the Archdiocese of Washington in 1961. He served as an associate pastor at St. Matthias Parish in Lanham, then as an associate pastor at Assumption and St. Joseph on Capitol Hill. He later served as associate pastor at Sacred Heart Parish in Bowie, followed by serving as associate pastor of St. Nicholas in Laurel. In 1974 Father Alliata was named as the Pastor of Holy Angels in Avenue, MD. In 1980 he became the founding pastor of Our Lady Help of Christians Parish in Waldorf. From 1987 to 2004 Father Alliata served as pastor of St. James Parish in Mount Rainier, MD. In 2004 he returned to Southern Maryland as the pastor of Immaculate Conception in Mechanicsville, MD. He served there until he retired in 2010. During his time as a priest he was very involved in Worldwide Marriage Encounter and the Cursillio Movement. He said he was inspired by the faith of the people he met in those activities. May Father Alliata be remembered as the loving, kind, generous and witty man with a sense of humor, that he was, and also as being a priest for the People of God.
