Introduction

Couples are expected to contact the parish priest at least six (6) months in advance of the date on which they hope to celebrate their wedding. The purpose of this period is to actively involve the couple in the process through which they can judge not only their own readiness to marry, but also their spiritual formation. The Marriage Preparation Program at St. John Vianney is personalized for each couple during a Pastoral Conference with the Priest.

Only the clergy of St. John Vianney parish may book the date for the celebration of a wedding. Dates will be bokked after there has been a sufficient opportunity to meet with the couple, to take care of the necessary paperwork and to arrange for their participation in a marriage preparation program at St. John Vianney parish. It is the responsibility of the engaged couple to secure the date with the parish before making commintments with caterers, reception halls, etc.

The engagement period is a time of intense preparation for the life-long commitment of married love. The couple must understand fully the meaning of the vows they will exchange: to live together and love each other for life, to be faithful and true to each other and to be open to the blessing of children.
