Safe Nights is an interfaith consortium of churches that open their hearts and church homes to the homeless for one week each beginning generally in late November and ending in March or early April. Shelters are open 7 days a week from 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. Shelters provide a cot and three nutritious meals (breakfast, dinner and a bag lunch) in a safe environment.
Safe Nights started in February 2008, and St. John Vianney was the first church to host two shelters that year. This year, we are encouraging our parishioners to volunteer and signup to serve at other churches and or donate via the Safe Nights website: https://www.safenightsofcalvert.com/
Volunteers typically serve in the following way: Setup and Breakdown, Preparing Food, Serving Food, Overnight Monitor, Cleaner, Laundry, and Transportation of Supplies. Each church has unique needs and may request another service opportunity.
Donations of the following supplies are greatly appreciated: Personal-
