Music Ministry
Welcome!
“The musical tradition of the Universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value…the main reason for this pre-eminence is that, as sacred song united to the words, it forms a necessary or integral part of solemn liturgy.”—Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy
The St. John Vianney music program brings the Church’s rich tradition of Sacred Music to each Liturgy, through the song of our parishioners as they accompany our volunteer choirs, allowing all to experience God through the beauty of music.
St. John Vianney Choir
Our Choir is the mainstay of the St. John Vianney music program and sings throughout the liturgical year for all Weekend Masses and for Holy Days. Our choristers seek to present traditional, contemporary and classical music, singing works spanning the centuries from Palestrina’s “Sicut Servus” all the way to sacred compositions of the 21st Century. Participation in the choir is open to singers of high school age and older. Previous music experience is encouraged, but not required. All are welcome! For more information please contact our Music Director, Mrs. Mila Arness at Music@sjvchurch.net
Ushers
Ushers assist in the orderly execution of the church functions and celebrations. They help by greeting parishioners, seating them and taking up the offertory collection.
Bible Study
The Scriptures are prayed and explored to give participants a greater understanding and appreciation of the Word of God. Recent experience has shown that men, women and children have strengthened their relationship with God, and with their families by prayer. The following groups have formed:
Eucharistic Adoration
Plan to include the Lord in your daily spiritual life by the very concrete and specific way of contemplative prayer, Eucharistic Adoration. Currently we have four days of adoration each week: Tuesday and Thursday, all day; Wednesday evenings; and Fridays. We also have All Night Adoration on the First Friday of the month. Check our Adoration Schedule for times. Through adoration, parishes have seen an increase in vocations, a decrease in crime, answers to prayers, an increase in Mass attendance, and a deepening of faith. Please consider pledging a weekly hour to come to the chapel and pray before Jesus in adoration.
Ultreya
An Ultreya was formed in 1982 at St. John Vianney Church so that all Calvert County Catholic Cursillistas would be able to meet locally on a monthly basis. The word itself, Cursillo, means a short course in Christianity and the Ultreya was formed as a support group where those who have completed the course, called Cursillistas, come together to share:
This local Ultreya enhances the sense of community and spiritual development as an extension of the Cusillo experience.
First Saturday Devotions
On the first Saturday of each month, an 8:00 A.M. Mass is conducted along with the Rosary. Confessions are also heard after Mass at this time.
Rosary
The Rosary is prayed every Monday at 9 A.M. in the Chapel to pray for Mary’s wish: increased devotion to her Son through her prayer, the rosary. Spend an hour in prayer of praise, petition, silence and one Mystery of the Rosary. Coordinator: Linda Vaulina (410) 535-
The Knights of Columbus will pray the Rosary at 4:30 pm prior to the 5 pm Saturday Masses beginning on July 24, 2021.
All are invited to join in prayer.
